I like to keep working hanging on the walls.
I locked myself into this painting three quarters of the way through, I was very happy. It didn’t last. Now what? I thought. I was lost, I didn’t know what to do. I had to stop, take a few steps back and reexamine the piece. I got it. Now I’m at the editing stage, this is always a challenge.
To sustain myself in the concrete wilderness that is New York City, I take refuge in the wooded more familiar parts of that wilderness that are the city parks, where I can observe and enjoy the flora of the urban gardens. I am particularly fascinated by the trees not so much because of their size or the elegance that their presence provides, but because of the inspiration that they provide for my paintings. The arrangement of the leaves on the stems suggests a symmetry that can be only found in nature and as yet is as mathematically precise as the uniformity and consistency provided by humanity.
